IT sector remains least impacted during COVID: Report
Amid the COVID-19 recession, the Information Technology (IT) sector stands out as one of the least affected industries in terms of hiring due to the widespread shift to virtual operations. The demand for professionals in both software and hardware segments has remained resilient, witnessing a consistent month-on-month (M-O-M) recovery that peaked in September for hardware roles (63 per cent) and software positions (20 per cent).
As per a report from the job search website naukri.com, the IT-Hardware sector experienced a notable 10 per cent growth in September compared to the pre-COVID period of February. Conversely, the IT-Software sector is still on the path to recovery, showing a decline of 28 per cent in October.
Recruiters are actively seeking candidates for key roles such as software developers, tech leads, tech architects, testing engineers, technical content developers, database architects, and solution architects. The report highlights substantial year-on-year (Y-O-Y) growth in roles such as technical content developer (350 per cent), solution architect (150 per cent), and database architect (100 per cent). Even tech architect roles have seen a Y-O-Y growth of over 50 per cent.
Major IT hubs contributing significantly to job creation include Bengaluru (22 per cent), Delhi (13 per cent), Hyderabad (9 per cent), Pune (9 per cent), and Chennai (7 per cent), collectively generating around 60 per cent of the jobs in the IT sector.
Prominent companies such as IBM, Cognizant, Accenture, TCS, Dell, Tech Mahindra, MindTree, Xerox, and Adobe are actively recruiting candidates during this period.
